The Return Of Random Violets
a (semi) fiction by The Burning Artist

Last century, shortly before Atlanta's olympic fever, Random Violets formed around the core of Max Force 10's guitar and voice, Killer Haven's bass, and The Bob's drumming. A werning, churning mix of pop, funk, and power trio sounds emanated from the basement of joy and anguish. Just as circumstances seemed right to move out of the basement, and into public, it all ended in utter silence. All parties moved to other projects, ambitions, and locales.

About five years ago Killer Haven and Max Force 10 reconnected and even played music together on occasion. MF-10 was entangled in a band of his making, sharing guitar, singing, and song writing duties with one Cut Finger. Meanwhile Killer had fallen in with the Grand Conductor of Improv's sphere of influence. About one year ago Killer asked about, and coordinated, a return to the long lost art of Cliff Diving. A reunion and a couple of public Dives were held, and inevitably, processes were set into motion. Long dormant musical inclinations arose in surprising ways.

In casual conversation with Sir SatinStan of VieTNam, Killer enquired about the possibility of sharing another bill with Cliff Diving and Sir Stan's fine ensemble of Atlanta80s All-Stars. Unbeknownst to Killer, the gig was booked, AND expanded with two more acts. A sudden realization occurred to Killer that this was not a gig for Diving Off Cliffs. Thinking fast, Killer invited the aforementioned Entangled song writing duo and engaged The Wrench Wench (WW to her friends) for drumming duties.

This grouping would honour the commitment Killer had made to performing, but what material and instrumentation was yet to be determined. A quick move to bass by Max Force 10 facilitated a move to keys by Killer Haven. These moves suggested an opening to a wealth of legacy material, none of which was developed by/available to the original trio in the 90's. A crash course in chord changes and development of "set ready" sounds has characterized Killer Haven's keyboard acculturation activities. The material has developed into a set of songs that Killer Haven is proud and happy to be playing. His only wish is that adrenaline doesn't impede his ability to play the material honourably. I know he'd love to see people come out and enjoy hearing these songs, some of them again.
